Let's set something straight.
Jane is a coward. He has always been a coward. When something explodes, he runs away - when there's danger, he turns the other direction, if possible. Some of the only times he has risked his life are for Lisbon or Red John. He doesn't run for just anything or anyone. He doesn't jump over things for just anything. And he especially doesn't tell just anyone he loves them. He doesn't trust just anyone.

Everyone on that plane, and NO ONE knows their history.
THE HISTORY. 6 seasons, 138 episodes, a boatload of crap dealt their way, a thousand and one death-defying situations shared between them... THE HISTORY. Best friends, partners, family, and FINALLY lovers.
Let's get this straight:
At the least, they've known each other for ten - twelve years. How do you figure, Anevay? Well, allow me to explain.
First, let's assume that each season covers about a year.
Second, Jane and Lisbon knew each other for at least three years before season 1 picks up. How did you figure that out, Anevay? Season four: the eight year anniversary of his wife and child's deaths. Four seasons, four years - he goes to the CBI about a year after his family died. Let's assume, then, that Jane works with them for about three or four years up until season one picks up.
3 years before season 1
+ 6 seasons
+ the 2 years he was in freaking Mexico
And the second half of season 6? We'll assume that's another half year to a year.
At the least, Jane and Lisbon have known each other for 12 YEARS. 12 YEARS!
Praise the Lord Almighty, they FINALLY KISSED.
